In June 2020, April Lanier became the Owner and Operator of Kuzen Kitchen, LLC. "Kuzen" is a play on the word cousin. Growing up, your Kuzens are often your best friends! For as long as April can remember, she and her Kuzens experimented in the kitchen.
Growing up, her grandfather and mother cooked all of her meals. April's grandfather actually built a chair for her to sit in so that he could watch her as he cooked. In reality, she was watching him and developing her love for cooking. When her grandfather passed away, April's mom really began showing her how to cook. The idea of creating and merging different flavors came from making "hookup plates" with her Kuzens.
After her mom passed away, April began cooking for family gatherings and her Kuzens always came through. Food became a staple for them. On the weekends, they would kickback, listen to music, and eat. April would cook pasta, seafood, and grill on the deck. Those weekend dinners became healing for her family. They would have Kuzen talk around the table. They would give each other a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, laughter to ease their sorrows, and wisdom to answer each others questions. Food was the main ingredient.
Now that April has children, they are another driving force in addition to her Kuzens. They encourage her to try new recipes and are her taste testers. Their love for home-cooked meals has also inspired the Kuzen Kitchen menu.
